So after the announcement yesterday that our company would be making cuts, which would result in layoffs, our company scheduled a "town hall" style meeting hosted by our very own CEO.

To sum the seemingly endless 45 minute chat up?

1. "Don't blame yourselves...it's not your fault." (which...OMG, are you serious? it hadn't even occured to me to self-flagellate over this whole issue since it's very obviously NOT the fault of the employees)

2. We don't know anything more then we already told you. (so the point of this meeting was what? For you to read the email outloud for those of us who can't read?)

3. Keep it real. (I'm not joking...it was in the company email AND he said about 5 times. I'd prefer if he mixed it up a little and maybe used "this shit JUST got real" as an alternative)

4. Stuff. (he kept calling the layoffs, economic consequences, and general revenue issues "stuff"...as in "Stuff will happen...don't worry about stuff...we don't know when this stuff will end." Can't ask for anything more specific then that! *cue eyeroll*

Gotta love the CEO corporate chat! It was like watching John McCain in the Presidential Town Hall debate...wandering around and gesticulating all over the goddamn place while essentially leaving you with the dual-feeling of worry for his overall health and frustration at not hearing anything of substance that pertains to you. Good times.

So today has not been the best of days for a number of reasons...but the main reason? My company - like so many others these days - has just announced major layoffs are coming down the pipe...imminently.

Figures...just managed to get myself a promotion too.

Now whether I'll be affected or not remains to be seen, but a similar company in Canada just laid off over 500 positions so it's likely my department will get hit, even if I don't. The only reason I'm the least bit optimistic is that the "digital" (aka new media) area is a huge growth areas in the business, so I'm hoping that the company will decide to just put a hire freeze on our area and not let anyone go. Gah. So stressful.

We'll know more on Wednesday afternoon after our CEO holds a Town Hall meeting with all employees. All I know is that if they lay people off and then go ahead and throw the regular massive (multi-million dollar) holiday party...I might quit in protest anyway. Honestly, I'm willing to forgo the open bar, ice sculptures, caviar and midgets playing balalaikas (seriously...they had one last year to "compliment" the theme of Dr. Zhivago/pre-revolution Russia) if it means I can keep my job. Seriously.

So what's a girl to do after getting depressing news like that? Why get a bangin' new haircut, of course! I figured I might as well spend the money while I still have it ;)

Yesterday was a good day...

- bought 1 pair of new shoes...I hate shoe shopping but I love shoes, it's an odd combination that means I rarely get anything done but I bought the nicest, comfiest high-heeled Camper sandals.

- followed [info]evenstar_estel's advice and went to Sears to check out the new Lilyette line of bras they carry...loved them, bought 5 :) So comfy and pretty! Excellent recommendation!

- found out the new Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie, The Corpse Bride, is going to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September...and I've pre-bought 10 tickets for my mom and I, so I'm going to get to see it!

- had dinner with my Daddy...talked his ear off as per usual but a good time was had by all

- bought Harry Potters films 1 & 2 (I already have 3)

- finshed some more LLGA awards and did some more of my RDA readings

- slept like the dead :)

How is everyone else on my friends list doing??? Everyone is being quiet...which makes me paranoid ;)

Yay! The second interview went really well and I will hear back by Tuesday :)

Boo! I think I need glasses. My eyesight is perfectly fine - in fact, much better than most - but everytime I sit at the computer these days, I get a massive headache which I think is eye-strain. See? The computer is bad for me!!

Also? How much do I love this icon...god, I love the Brits!

I have had a very good last few days! I have (resorting to a list here):

- Gotten my iPod fixed (replaced actually, but still a good thing)
- Pre-ordered VM and House on DVD
- changed my LJ layout to Flexible Squares...am still working on the color scheme but I'm liking it...then gorgeous BSG banner is courtesy of [info]sdwolfpup
- Splurged and bought several things at Pottery Barn...my only shopping weakness
- seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with my dad...fantastic! Loved it...Tim, Johnny, and Freddie rocked...but please, would someone get this Oompa-Loompa song outta my head??? PLEASE!
- washed my car...but then it rained :(
- gotten yelled at in the Mall parking lot by someone who said I'd taken her parking space which was totally an accident...it was a van pulling out and I couldn't see her on the other side (I did check to see if someone was waiting) so I pulled in...got out and she stopped, rolled down her window, swore at me and then drove off. Nice. Made me really angry...I didn't even get to respond! I don't steal parking spots...ever. Yes, she is a stranger whom I will never see again, but I don't like it when people dislike me...heh...
- had an O.C. marathon with my friend who dropped by tonight...finished off Season 1...I am now addicted and cannot wait to get the DVD's of Season 2 which come out at the end of the summer...Peter Gallagher and Adam Brody are hilarious
- Had the best/weirdest dream involving Jon Stewart, the cast of the Daily Show AND the cast of The O.C.! Such an odd combo but made total sense in my dreamy state.

Things still to do:

- Write a cover letter for a job I'm applying for next week...it's hard to find something better than where I am when I only have 3 years of University :(
- Finish beta-ing LW's story...I'm on it, hon, I have not forgotten you.
- Finish my icons/art for posting tomorrow at [info]serenitysummer
- Finish essay for university course

Whew...I feel like I'm forgetting something...oh well, I'll remember it eventually. Sleep now.

*waves to her f-list*
