Get out of my head, IMDB!!

It's like they read my thoughts (and many of yours!) and compiled today's IMDB poll based on my current preoccupations!

Humans and vampires make hot couples. Which of the following is your favorite?

What were the odds? Go vote!

The choices are:

  • Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) of "True Blood"

  • Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) of Twilight

  • Angel (David Boreanaz) and Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

  • Spike (James Marsters) and Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

  • Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) and Beth Turner (Sophia Myles) of "Moonlight"

  • Det. Nicholas 'Nick' Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies) and Dr. Natalie Lambert (Catherine Disher) of "Forever Knight"

  • Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) and Victoria Winters (Alexandra Isles) of "Dark Shadows"

  • Barnabas Collins (Ben Cross) and Victoria Winters (Joanna Going) of "Dark Shadows"

I had to go with my all-time fave (see the majority of my icons...lol) but my new obsession with True Blood made it harder to pick then I would've thought! I may have also had a small obsession with the Ben Cross version of Dark Shadows...I thought he was sexy as hell but I was surprised people remembered it enough to include as an option!

Thing I'm enjoying? Currently both BtVS pairings AND Sookie/Bill are kicking Twilight's ass. W00T! Some of you may love it but this vampire aficionado cannot stand it. Just not my thing...too sweet for my taste. I like my vamps darker and less sparkly ;)

I notice a lot of us are going back and watching episodes or entire seasons - and although I meant to relay my thoughts on individual episodes, I was going through them so quickly that before I noticed it, I was done the entire season. So I thought I'd cover everything at once...although I'll be trying to do smaller chunks as I move along through my viewing.

So...Season 5:

My initial thoughts while watching it originally? I really enjoyed it and probably counted it as my favourite full season. Upon second viewing? I think I still feel that way. It's a very solid season...well thought out and the themes of family and growing up are really well portrayed. I think most characters were at their best during this season...or at least at their most interesting. Just when you didn't think it was possible to introduce new layers to the show and to its main peeps, they do and do it quite often.

Favourite episodes:

- Fool for Love
- The Body
- Crush
- Intervention
- The Gift

Hidden gem episodes I'd forgotten about:

- Triangle (Olaf! I'd totally forgotten about this...very funny)
- Family (watching the Scoobies rally around their own and seeing Tara's face when they do is amazing)

Things I never noticed before:

- When Buffy sits down on one of the seats in the passenger train in Crush, she sits in the forensic tape outline of one of the victims...in the exact pose. That's one bit of foreshadowing I never noticed before.

- In The Gift I noticed this sign in The Magic Box that had me pausing my TV and then laughing out loud:

What do you remember about Season 5 and what do you love (or not) about it?

On their site a couple of weeks ago Entertainment Weekly asked people to submit what would be considered the sexiest scenes ever on TV and from those suggestions, the site team would pick their Top pics...and when they put up the finalists last week, I saw they'd taken my suggestion (the Spuffy scene at the end of Smashed!) and quoted me too!

Now I'm not the only one who suggested this particular scene...because HELLO, hottest thing I've ever seen on TV (and that's including all of the porn that plays on the pay stations after hours that you forget is there until you flip by it and see more then anyone should see when trying to chill on a week night) but they chose my comment to illustrate the scene's popularity and suitableness for the list. How cool is that?

Buffy and Spike make EW.com's list!

So yeah...kind of silly but very cool! Yay for being coherent enough to be the quote chosen!

Okay - I've had a really weird work schedule lately that has left me with a lot of sitting around and waiting for stuff to happen time...so I decided to pop in Buffy Season 1 and start right back at the beginning.

I've watched all 7 seasons now and it's like I'm a first time watcher...I'm just as excited when things happen, I'm laughing like I'm hearing all of the funnies for the first time...and I'm crying like I had no idea what emotional punches were coming. It's odd but at the same time, kind of comforting. And I'm becoming an obsessed fan girl all over again...seriously. It's like no time has passed and the show is still on!

Par example: I'm only listening to my self-made Buffy soundtracks (thank god I still have those)! [info]deathisyourart - remember that create a soundtrack around a character challenge we did back in the day? That was a ton of fun. Anyhoo, I digress. I'm re-watching episodes I just watched. I'm talking about the show to anyone that will listen. And I'm devouring and re-discovering all my favourite fanfic.

*ring ring* What's that? 2002 called and they want their "me" back? Tough noogie, I'm loving this...they'll have to wait.

Most depressing thing about snuggling up with an old fandom? Everyone else has left the building! Okay...I exaggerate...not everyone but most have, for their own sanity, moved on...and so they should have. But there is nothing more depressing for me right now then to go surfing for my old favourite fic and finding sites no longer exist and that some of those fantastic stories are lost to the rather giant recesses in my mind. Boo.

Seriously though...I'm a bit of a nostalgic personality and I'm getting quite mired in melancholy of "what used to be" and being sad that I'll never experience anything like this again. I mean I can re-read and re-watch til I'm bleeding out the eyes (bad imagery, forgive me) and try to recapture the feeling all I want but it'll never be the same. I'll never fall in love with these characters for the first time again, I'll never get to enjoy seeing where Joss will take the story, I'll never get to see where these amazing actors could've taken these characters (seriously...seeing James play Spike for even just five more minutes would be enough)...and man, that makes me sniffly.

I have been a part of other fandoms and guess I could say I am a part of a few right now...but as much as I like them and enjoy them, it's not the same. It won't and/or can't be the same. Not even Firefly or Veronica Mars resonated with me the way this show (and it's spin off) did. Le sigh...I guess you really can't go back again.

However, even re-connecting with the fandom/the characters for even a little while reminds me of how amazing this show was, how amazing and talented the fans were (and still are) and how lucky I was to be around to experience it first-hand.

*Ahem*

Wow...that started off happy and just spiraled into a maudlin pit of despair.

However, before ending this I wanted to send a big thank you to those of you who have continued to host your Buffy stories and sites (I don't know what I'd be doing right now if it wasn't for allaboutspike.com!) and let everyone know that I'll probably be posting a bunch of Buffy-related randomness over the next little while (maybe even some Photoshopped icons or such)...so if anyone else wants to indulge in a little nostalgia with me, jump on in! I will use any and all excuses to discuss or chat about the show :)

Okay - so I'm the worst LJ user ever...months between posts and belatedly returning comments. I think it's because despite how busy I've become in my job, I just didn't have anything I thought was interesting enough to talk about.

Still don't really...but due to a recent battle with the plague (aka worst cold/flu I've had in a long time) I'm revisiting fandoms past! I've watched all of Firefly (and then re-watched commentary episodes), then watched Serenity (and then watched both commentaries), then watched most of season 2 of Angel and Season 4 of Buffy. And so I'm deeply immersed in the Jossverse...especially given the recent Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast reunion at the Paley Festival in LA (which I would've sold my firstborn to attend, by the by) I thought I'd wax a bit philosophical on the joy that is the Joss-verse and share my excitement about some Jossian creations coming down the pipe. Also, marvel at my ability to turn Joss into any number of verbs, nouns and adjectives.
