On one of the coldest nights of the year, half of Toronto's downtown is without power (and thus, sans heat). Bad time for one of the downtown power stations to flood!

I'm luckily a couple blocks outside the zone...but most of my friends are in the zone. The subways aren't running - they have shuttle buses instead - and all the street lights and traffic lights are out as well.

My friend is running a live blog of the updates and the peeps on Twitter (myself included) are doing a great job of keeping everyone informed of updates (most major city services have Twitter updates, which helps a ton at times like these).

Here's hoping they get things fixed and everything back up and running soon!

UPDATE: Apparently I was in the "zone" but am on a different grid because I live next to one of teh major hospitals. BONUS!

Over 100,000 homes and businesses were still without power this morning...no subways were running on one of our major routes, schools were forced to close because they had no heat, and traffic was nuts because several of the main streets had no traffic lights. Delightful.

As of 3:20 pm (EST) the subway was back up and fully running and 75% of people have their power back. Hydro is saying that it will take up until 10 pm to get everyone up and running again.
